Our group was given the broad prompt of exploring rapid prototyping and its future advancements across industries. To narrow our focus, we chose to examine 3D printing within the jewelry industry.

Our objective was to enhance the consumer experience by extending the jewelry lifecycle through a design, print, and remelt process that leverages off-the-bed metal 3D printing.
Since this concept is entirely new and hasn’t been seen before, we decided to create a completely reimagined, revolutionary store concept—allowing us to design the service and experience from start to finish.

Our solution

Interface
Since our store concept centers on building lasting relationships between customers and their jewelry—supported by a remelting and reuse lifecycle—our interface begins with account creation. This allows users to track their custom designs, store credit, and purchase history, fostering a more personal and continuous connection with the brand.

We chose not to give users full control over customizing their jewelry from scratch. Instead, we structured the experience into selectable sections with curated options. This decision was driven by the limitations of 3D printing—particularly around structural integrity—and to make the process less overwhelming. Users can still explore and personalize, but within a framework that ensures both creativity and feasibility.

We integrated AR capabilities that connect with the store’s smart mirrors, allowing customers to virtually try on their pieces. This reduces the risk of dissatisfaction and enables quick adjustments before finalizing their design, creating a more confident and seamless customization experience.
